Little Homemade Cake
My mom has been making this cake as long as I can remember. When I was a kid, she had a huge garden. She grew enough food to feed us all summer, can or freeze enough for all winter and still had enough left over to sell to make a little extra money. One of the items she grew in huge amounts was strawberries. We loved them, and ate them all kinds of ways, but one of our favorite ways was mashed and spooned over the top of her little homemade cake. It is a smaller recipe that mom always made in a square pan. We liked it best warm…

Easy Sweetened Whipped Cream
I love whipped cream, but have always had trouble making it or it doesn’t hold up very long. I have tried several different times but it is hard to get it right. I decided to try again this week. I did some research and discovered a new recipe. It was so easy, it came out so smooth and it held it’s shape. It didn’t even melt when I put on the sweetened peaches that I had prepped that morning for dessert. This whipped cream recipe uses powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar, this is what helps it be more stable and so smooth. The recipe called for vanilla extract but…

Cinnamon Toast
Cinnamon toast is one of my favorite breakfast foods. It is not very healthy, but it is delicious. I don’t fix it as often as I want to, but usually fix it about once a month. It is a great way to use up bread that is getting a little stale. I learned to make it when I was a kid and still make it the same way. I have tried a lot of different ways over the years, but still prefer it like Mom made it. I use regular sliced white bread, real stick butter and cinnamon sugar. I bought a container of cinnamon sugar a long time ago…

Are Timeshares Worth It?
There are all kinds of timeshares. Some are very specific about where you stay and how long you have to stay. The older style timeshares were sold as 1 week every year or every other year at a specific resort. Every company has their own way of laying out a different system. Some of the newer companies figured out that not everyone can take a full week off every year for vacation. The company we bought into has a point system. We purchased points that can be used at a lot of different resorts however we want to use them. The minimum nights required for each resort can vary depending…

Cheeseburger Hash Brown Skillet Meal
I bought a hash brown meal kit once and we liked it okay, but I figured I could make it healthier and taste better. I did and only used 3 ingredients plus salt and pepper. The kit used dehydrated potatoes that I had to add water to rehydrate and a powdered cheese sauce that had to be mixed up. I decided to use frozen hash browns, ground beef and Velvetta cheese. Not only is it better, it is even easier than making the kit version. My husband and I love this cheeseburger hash brown skillet meal. Since I almost always have my ground meat already cooked and frozen ready to…

How to Organize a Laundry Room
I told you in Laundry Done My Way that I would give you a tour of my laundry room. I didn’t mean for it to take this long, but life happens. Anyway, here it is finally. I want to show you how it is organized to make it easy for the laundry to move through our system each week with minimal effort from me. I have a large load capacity washer so that makes it easier for us to get the laundry washed in fewer loads per week. The first part of my system begins with laundry baskets. Sounds simple right? Well it is, but it is important. I have 4…

Strawberry or Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins
My family loves bananas and they usually disappear before I have a chance to make anything out of them. My husband absolutely loves banana pudding and would love it if I made one every week. I bought some extra bananas so I could make him one. We had some extra things come up and we weren’t home much and I didn’t get a chance to made the pudding, so we ended up with some pretty overripe bananas that no one would eat. This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more details. Once they get that ripe, banana bread is one of the best ways to use them. I…

Just Toys – Not Girl or Boy Toys
When my oldest was young, a friend had a boy just 2 months younger than him. We spent a lot of time together and the boys were raised more like brothers than friends those first few years. They got into all kinds of trouble, we knew if we couldn’t hear them we better see what they were up to. One thing that always stuck with me was her calling the girl toy section at Walmart, the pink aisle. They always skipped the pink aisle. That was just the beginning of everything being pink, back then the pink aisle was mainly Barbies and baby dolls. Now almost everything has a pink…

Easy Sweetened Peaches
I am in LOVE! In love with fresh peaches! We went to my best friend’s house for supper last week. We had a great meal, but dessert was the winner that day. She had made a red velvet cake the day before and when she went to move it, the lid came off and it fell face forward on the floor. They were able to save a small portion that didn’t hit the floor. She was so upset and blamed her husband as he was the one who put the lid on the carrier. Her mom had given her some peaches, so she cut them up and sweetened them since…
