15 Things to Buy at Dollar Tree

I have always loved going to Dollar Tree. How can you beat knowing that everything in the store is only $1. Some things they sell are not any cheaper than at other stores and sometimes the quality is not as good. But you can save money if you know what to buy. You need to know your prices at other stores to know if it is a good deal. There are a few items that we just like better than the ones at other stores.

  1. Orchard Park Hazelnut Coffee Creamer – I started buying it because it was cheap, it is only 7 oz though so I usually buy several at a time. I can get coffee creamer for about the same amount per ounce at Aldi, but my husband likes the flavor of the one at Dollar Tree better. Occasionally I find other food items there that I buy, but nothing on a regular basis.
  2. Old World Flavor Coarse Kosher Salt – It comes in a large shaker container that makes salting the food while cooking easier. I even take a bottle with me when we go on vacation. I have bought other spices there as well and have not noticed a difference in quality.
  3. Flocked hangers –  I never used flocked hangers until the last few years. My husband and I had several shirts that kept falling off the hangers, so when I saw the flocked hangers at Dollar Tree I decided to try them. They come in a package of 3 which is pretty reasonable. I have purchased several more sets since then and have been really pleased with the quality.
  4. Travel Laundry Bags – We have bought several of them over the years. The kids use them to take their bedding and towels to camp and then they put their dirty clothes in them to bring them home. I love that they are only $1, so if they lose them, tear them up or get them filthy, I can just replace them.
  5. Gift Bags – I have purchased most of my gift bags at Dollar Tree for years. The really big ones are where you save the most money. When the kids were little we used a lot of large bags for birthday parties, I have also bought them for baby and wedding showers.
  6. Plastic Tablecloths – They have them in multiple colors and they can be used in a lot of different ways. I have used them at all our parties and to protect tables when the kids use markers or do crafts. I have seen them used to decorate, make wreaths, flowers and much more.
  7. Holiday Tableware – I love to buy special plates and napkins for any kind of occasion. They usually have a new print or design every year for all the holidays and it is a very inexpensive way to add a little extra pizzazz to your event.
  8. Goody Bag Fillers – When you have a kids birthday party or just want to make goody bags for a classroom party, buying the fillers can get expensive. They have a lot of small items and character themed items that are sure to please a bunch of little ones.
  9. Christmas Ornaments – We make Christmas ornaments every year at church for all the kids. I have been able to find ornaments at Dollar Tree that we were able to use. Sometimes we changed them up some and other years we just personalized them. I have also used some for teachers gifts.
  10. Yard or Holiday Decorations – I like to decorate my yard and house for all the holidays and seasons, but don’t like to try to figure out how to store the decorations. It is very easy to find cute decorations that can be used for a while and then replaced when they get faded or blown away.
  11. Socks – When the kids were younger, they didn’t take care of their socks very well, so I bought a lot of the cute printed socks. They wore them until they had holes in them or outgrew them. They have a lot of different styles and types for all ages.
  12. Hair Accessories – Kids go through a lot of hair accessories. My daughter has liked to wear her hair in different ways over the years. Sometimes we changed the way we fixed her hair because it grew and sometimes it was because she wanted it a certain way. We went through a phase where all she wanted was to wear headbands. She went through a lot of headbands by either breaking them or loosing them. Being able to buy them at Dollar Tree allowed us to have all kinds of colors and styles.
  13. Toiletries – They have all kinds of items such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soap, shampoo, etc… The sizes are sometimes smaller so they make great travel items without having to buy the expensive miniature sizes. They usually have some character items which always make the kids happy.
  14. Books – I have bought some really nice board books for the kids at Dollar Tree. I loved board books because they were easier for the kids to play with and for me to read since there are not as many pages. Activity books were a great find as well. My kids always liked activity books to play with at church and I liked them because they were learning as they entertained themselves.
  15. Shower Gifts – I like to put together gift baskets for baby and wedding showers. I am able to buy a lot of smaller gifts at Dollar Tree to add to the basket. They have lots of kitchen items such as serving spoons, spatulas, bowls, and cleaning items that can be added to a basket. The baby items vary, but I have been able to find character items, books, spoons, cups, wash cloths, and more.

There are a lot of other items that I have bought over the years. They get in special purchase items all the time so you never know what they will have. My daughter loves the candy aisle. Sometime I go in to pick up some of my regular items and find a lot of really great things. The great thing is, if I find something I want, I can afford it. Even if I find an extra 20 items, I have only spent $20. If you haven’t tried Dollar Tree, it is worth a few visits to see how you can save money.
