Flavored French Toast
My family loves french toast. We have it for supper quite often because it is an easy, filling, and inexpensive meal that pleases everyone. I grew up eating french toast with peanut butter spread on it along with syrup and that is how I still eat it. Everyone is always surprised and do not think that peanut butter on french toast would be good, but it is, it is really good. Everyone in the family eats it this way except Devin because he is allergic to peanuts and peanut products. We put cinnamon sugar on his now, but for years he just ate it plain with syrup. French toast is…

Cheesy Eggs and Ham
My husband loves eggs, almost any kind. I like making cheesy eggs and ham because I can make them for one, two or the entire family all at once and they are oh, so good. I fix 2-3 eggs per person, depending on what else I am going to serve with them. Sometimes I fix home fries or hash browns, other times just toast. Start by getting everything ready. The eggs are the last thing you want to cook. They are quick and easy and only take a few minutes to prepare. Break the eggs into a bowl and add salt and pepper. I like to use Land of Frost…

Cinnamon Toast
Cinnamon toast is one of my favorite breakfast foods. It is not very healthy, but it is delicious. I don’t fix it as often as I want to, but usually fix it about once a month. It is a great way to use up bread that is getting a little stale. I learned to make it when I was a kid and still make it the same way. I have tried a lot of different ways over the years, but still prefer it like Mom made it. I use regular sliced white bread, real stick butter and cinnamon sugar. I bought a container of cinnamon sugar a long time ago…

Strawberry or Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins
My family loves bananas and they usually disappear before I have a chance to make anything out of them. My husband absolutely loves banana pudding and would love it if I made one every week. I bought some extra bananas so I could make him one. We had some extra things come up and we weren’t home much and I didn’t get a chance to made the pudding, so we ended up with some pretty overripe bananas that no one would eat. This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosure policy for more details. Once they get that ripe, banana bread is one of the best ways to use them. I…

How to Make an Omelette
I don’t make omelettes very often but we really do like them when I do. I know some people think that they are hard to make but they really aren’t. They just take some patience and of course they don’t have to be perfect to taste good. My son loves a lot of meat in his omelette, so I cut up a roll of sausage. I fried the patties first and then scrambled the ends to go in the omelette. I used ham, sausage and cheese in his omelette. I added some bacon bits to mine. That is the nice thing about omelettes, they can be made however each person…

Ham and Cheese Hash Browns
One of our favorite breakfasts is a one skillet hash brown meal. I have been cooking this for so long that I do not remember where the idea came from. My husband used to not be too fond of this, so it became a meal I cooked for myself when he was at work. Shane liked it so he would eat it with me, but Devin never liked potatoes so I always had to make him something different. It is Shaylee’s favorite meal and John has now decided that he likes it, so we have it for a family breakfast quite often. If we are all eating it, I cook…

Crescent Roll Danishes
Do you need an easy recipe for breakfast, brunch or dessert? This is one that I have made for my kids many times over the past few years. We have tried these danishes in many different ways, cream cheese, grape, strawberry, Nutella, apple, honey, etc… We have settled on the cream cheese, strawberry and Nutella being our favorites. I usually make a double batch when I am cooking for the whole family. There are 8 crescent rolls in a package and I use 1/2 a package of cream cheese for one can. I put the cream cheese in a bowl and heat in the microwave for 20 second intervals until…

Meal Planning – My Way
I have said it before. I am not good about meal planning. Our life is crazy most of the time. I rarely know if we are going to be home for supper or at least how many are going to be home. I have tried to plan out meals, but it usually doesn’t work out. I like to have easy meals that I can throw together quickly, that is just what works for our family, but I still like to cook fairly wholesome meals out of real food when possible. I have a few tricks that help me with this. I buy ground meat in the larger amounts and prepare…

Sweet Rice
I don’t know if this is true or not, but I remember having sweet rice every Sunday morning growing up. This is the only kind of rice my mom cooked. It was good, but by the time I left home, I never wanted rice for breakfast. We spent a lot of time with my parents when we were first married and the boys were young, so we still had rice quite often. As the boys got older and more involved in sports and other things, we spent less whole weekends with them. We still eat Sunday lunch there most weeks unless something else is going on or someone is sick. …

Too Many Baked Potatoes?
Have you ever cooked too many baked potatoes? I had a couple large ones left over when my husband and son didn’t come home for supper one night. This is why planning meals ahead of time doesn’t work well for our family. I never know who is going to be home for supper each night. I hate wasting food, so I put them in the fridge after they cooled. The next morning I peeled them and cut them up into chunks about 1/2” square. I fried up a 1 pound roll of sausage, six slices and the rest scrambled. I pulled out the slices and added some oil, the potato…
