How to Make an Omelette

I don’t make omelettes very often but we really do like them when I do. I know some people think that they are hard to make but they really aren’t. They just take some patience and of course they don’t have to be perfect to taste good. My son loves a lot of meat in his omelette, so I cut up a roll of sausage. I fried the patties first and then scrambled the ends to go in the omelette. I used ham, sausage and cheese in his omelette. I added some bacon bits to mine. That is the nice thing about omelettes, they can be made however each person prefers. Some people like onions, peppers, mushrooms, or tomatoes in theirs. You can add whatever ingredients you like to your omelettes.

We use 3 eggs to make an omelette in a 10″ non-stick pan. Once I break them in a bowl, I add salt and pepper and beat the eggs until they are completely mixed. A long time ago I was told to put just a little water in the eggs to make them fluffier, so that is what I do right before I pour them in the pan.

I have used butter, oil and meat grease when cooking omelettes. I really don’t notice any difference in how the omelette cooks. Since I cooked sausage today, I used the grease from it. In my opinion, the meat grease adds an extra layer of flavor to the omelette.

As the eggs start to cook, move the cooked part to the center, allowing the uncooked egg to move to the edges.

Once it is mostly cooked, I flip it over so the rest can finish cooking. Sometimes it tears or doesn’t flip exactly right, I just straighten it out and continue. It doesn’t affect the taste and my family really doesn’t care how it looks as long as they get to eat them.

I added the meat and cheese to the omelette, fold it in half, then cover and remove from the heat. Once the cheese is melted, the omelette will be ready to serve. We had sausage and biscuits with our omelettes.

Ingredients

3 eggs per omelette

salt and pepper to taste

1 tbsp butter, oil or meat grease

cheese, meat, or veggies

Cut up or prepare the filling items for each person and have them ready before you start cooking the omelettes. Break 3 eggs in a bowl, add salt and pepper and about a teaspoon of water. Beat the eggs very well and pour in a hot greased non-stick pan. As the egg begins to cook, take your spatula and move the cooked egg to the center allowing the uncooked egg to the edges. Once most of the egg is cooked, I use the spatula to flip the omelette over, add the filling and fold in half. Cover and remove from heat, once the cheese is melted, it is ready to serve.
