How to Organize Cooking Utensils

As I have mentioned before, my kitchen is an older one and doesn’t have a lot of space. I try to organize and make my kitchen easier to use. I have a very limited amount of drawer space in this house. After purging my utensils and rearranging them, even putting some in the silverware drawer, I still have trouble finding what I need easily.

I have seen a lot of kitchen doors fixed up all fancy with chalkboard paint and shapes traced on the doors. I do not do fancy organization, I just want things to be easy to find, grab, use and replace. I finally remembered to buy some Command hooks. They are kind of expensive, but can be easily removed if needed. I bought a large pack because I didn’t know how many I would need.

I knew I wanted to hang up my measuring spoons, so while I was getting them out, I looked to see what else could be hung up. I decided that if I hung up the tongs, it would help empty out some room in both drawers. There is a small door in the corner that holds the mixer, food processor, blender, and other less used items, so I thought it would be perfect to put the tongs on the door. It isn’t used much but the tongs would be right by the stove when we needed them.

I read the instructions on the back of the package. It said to clean the door with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils or dust that might prevent the Command hooks from sticking properly. I poured some alcohol on a paper towel and wiped down the inside of the two doors that I planned to use. There was enough room for all 4 pair of the tongs to be hung up on the door.

I put the measuring spoons and other small utensils on the cabinet door directly above the stove, so they are easy to get to, but won’t bother the rest of the family very much. Once I had hung up the measuring spoons, I just held the other things up to see what would fit. I was able to get several items out of the drawers which will make them easier to use and I won’t have to hunt for the hanging up items when I need to use them.

Just a warning, when you open the door, the spoons and other utensils swing and bang back against the door. I have scared myself several times already, but as a bonus, I got to see it scare my son too when he reached for the oil this morning.
